How it works
What RocketReply does — and what it can and can't see.
The short version: you connect your WhatsApp, RocketReply watches for the calls and messages you miss, and replies for you — a note in your words, or a full AI conversation. It runs quietly in the background, and you can take over any chat at any time. Here's exactly how, in plain terms — including the privacy question everyone rightly asks.
1. How it connects — and which number
RocketReply links to your WhatsApp as a companion device — the same way WhatsApp Web does. One QR scan, no new phone number to buy, no call-forwarding, no official Business API. And you choose which number or account to connect:
- →One account for everything. Plenty of solo operators run personal and business on a single WhatsApp. RocketReply works there — and, as you'll see below, it only ever keeps the conversations it actually replies to, never your personal chats.
- →Kept separate. Prefer total separation? Put your business on its own number, or the WhatsApp Business app as a distinct account, and connect RocketReply only to that. Your personal account is a different account entirely — RocketReply cannot see it at all.
2. What RocketReply can see, and what it keeps
The one rule that governs everything: we only store the conversations RocketReply actually handled for you.
Because RocketReply is a linked device, WhatsApp delivers it an event for every message on the connected number — that's unavoidable for any linked device (it's how WhatsApp Web works too). What matters isn't what flows through; it's what we keep. Here's the whole picture:

Anything we don't reply to is processed for a fraction of a second in memory — just long enough to decide "do we respond?" — and then discarded. It is never written to our database and never appears in your dashboard. RocketReply is not a logger sitting on your inbox.
3. Your questions, answered straight
What exactly is RocketReply monitoring?
Three things on the connected number: (1) missed calls, so it can reply; (2) incoming messages it should answer; and (3) whether you've stepped into a thread, so it knows to back off. That's it.
If I start a new chat myself, does it butt in or log it?
No. The moment you send the first message, RocketReply sees you're active in that thread, stays completely silent, and stores nothing from it. Chats you start are yours.
I jumped in and took over from the AI — is it still watching?
It steps aside. Once you reply in a thread by hand, RocketReply pauses there for 12 hours after your last message and won't send anything. It stays out of your way while you're handling it.
Can it read my personal chats?
It can't store or show them — personal conversations you handle yourself never get saved (see the table above). And if you want zero exposure of any kind, connect a dedicated business account and keep your personal one entirely separate.
4. The honest bit
RocketReply connects using an unofficial companion link (not WhatsApp's official Business API), so there's a small, real risk that WhatsApp could restrict a number that looks like spam. We keep sending low and human-paced specifically to avoid that — but the risk attaches to whichever account you connect. That's a good reason to keep WhatsApp chat backup on (so a re-link never loses history), and, if you'd rather not put it on a number you also use personally, to connect a dedicated business account instead.
